What to Expect from a HSI Sensing Engineering Solution

Here’s how the process works:
Step 1: Discovery
The first step our engineers take when approaching a new project is assessing and discussing the unique requirements of your project. We take the time to understand every point, end-to-end, from application to project specifications. The HSI team will meet with you to discuss several entry questions, some items that will be asked in a first meeting, will be:
- What does the sensor need to detect? What happens after it is detected?
- What is the voltage, current, power and resistance that describe the circuit?
- What is size and shape of the sensor? What is the target orientation and sensing distance?
- What are the environmental conditions and temperature that the sensor will be operating in? Will the sensor be exposed to chemicals? Does it require special certifications?
- Are there any quality clauses, requirements, First Article Inspection Report (FAIR) and Qualification expectations?
- What is the time frame in which you need your product developed?
From here, the brainstorming begins. And, it’s okay to not have all the answers out of the gate. We will guide the conversation and help develop the answers together.
Step 2: Project Planning
Once we have a clear picture of what the project entails, we get into the nitty gritty to develop a Project Proposal. This provides scope and defines expectations including cost, deliverables and timelines. After you approve the proposal, we put together the formal project plan that we will work from during the rest of the project.
Step 3: Design and Prototyping
In our experience, the best solutions come from a collaborative approach between different groups of industry experts. Throughout this process, we like to see ourselves as an extension of your team. We begin by working with you to develop a proof of concept. Then, we work through prototyping together with you and your team. The goal is to provide working prototypes to test through application of use. This process is not considered complete until a defined prototype has met needs of the project and successfully works in your application.
Step 4: Product Activation
Once the prototype is approved, we gather and/or develop all of the necessary tools and equipment for production. We also finalize all drawings, documentation and manufacturing processes. By the end of this phase, we can ensure a smooth production. The pre-production samples are put together and once approved, the product moves to full production.
Step 5: Production
When your product goes to production, we don’t just hand it off to an automated assembly line. Instead, it’s handled by skilled manufacturing professionals who work together in micro-cells to ensure quality and precise functionality every step of the way.
And our service doesn’t end there. Once the product is in your hands, HSI Sensing personnel remain involved through every production run, ensuring that your cost, quality and scheduling requirements are being met to your upmost satisfaction.
