The first step our engineers take in any custom engineering project is listening to your project’s unique needs. We will take the time to understand the application and project specifications. From there we start to determine the feasibility and brainstorm solutions.

Once we have a clear understanding of the project we will dive into the specifics and develop a Project Proposal. This document provides scope and defines what can be expected with your project including cost, deliverables, and timelines. When the proposal is approved we will put together the formal project plan that we will work from during the rest of the project.

Step 3: Design & Prototyping

We believe the best solutions come from collaboration between different groups of industry experts. Throughout this process, we like to see ourselves as an extension of your engineering team. This phase starts with your assigned team working with you to develop a proof of concept. Then we will work through the prototyping process alongside you and your team. Our goal is to provide working prototypes that you can test in your application. The design and prototyping process is not complete until a prototype meets your needs and works in your application.

Once prototypes are approved, we gather or develop all necessary tools and equipment for production. Additionally, we finalize all drawings, documentation and manufacturing processes. At the end of this phase we will have ensured that production will be executed smoothly. We will put together pre-production samples and once they are approved the product will move to production.

When your product goes to production, we don’t hand it off to an automated assembly line. Instead it is put in the hands of skilled manufacturing professionals who work together in micro-cells to ensure quality and precise functionality every step of the way.

Our engineers collaborate with you to develop new products tailor-made for your application. Using our advanced machining, rapid prototyping, and custom molding techniques–along with testing the products in your application–we can shorten development time and prevent costly mistakes.

From day one, you’ll be partnered with a fellow engineer at HSI who understands the ins and outs of reed switch technology, who will listen to your requirements, and work with you on the project from beginning to end.

Obviously development time depends on the complexity of your device and your requirements. Customization of existing sensors–such as changing wire colors or connectors–can take as little as a few hours. Things like custom housings and lab work take longer, but not as long as you might think. We already have personnel, outside labs, prototype fabricators, and component manufacturers on standby to tackle your project at any time.

No matter what your requirements, we’ll estimate the development time and cost early-on, and keep you posted every step of the way. Keep in mind, is we are able to help out from the very beginning of the design process our turnaround time will decrease.

Signing and adhering to legally-binding non-disclosure agreements is something our engineers do every day. We also offer custom part-numbering to ensure that your custom products never find their way onto any public price list or quote.
